News Release – Peace Memorial Auditorium Task Force Announced
Dave Fiser, President of the Friends of Peace Memorial Auditorium, announced the formation of the Peace Memorial Auditorium Task Force. Community members, representing several organizations and the community at-large, were selected and have agreed to serve the Manhattan community through their participation with the task force. The task force is charged with determining needs, costs, and finalizing payment options for improvements to Peace Memorial Auditorium. The items the task force is anticipated to discuss include improvements to Peace Memorial Auditorium’s lighting, sound system, stage curtains, stage floor, and other potential improvements. The task force will also discuss opportunities for recognizing veterans and Manhattan’s early settlers.
Members of the task force and the organizations they represent are as follows: Ed Klimek, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board; Jan Danenberg, Arts and Humanities Advisory Board; Dave Ekart, Flint Hills Veterans Coalition; Alyn Pennington West, Manhattan/Riley County Preservation Alliance; Jim Rhine, Riley County Historical Society; Jim Sharp, Barbara Poresky, Kathy Dzewaltowski, and Randi Dale, Friends of Peace Memorial Auditorium; and Roger Reitz, Don Thomson, Mary Stamey, Mel Borst, and Stormy Lee Kennedy, community at-large.*
The goal of the Friends of Peace Memorial Auditorium is to help raise funds to renovate Peace Memorial Auditorium so that the auditorium may continue to serve the community's needs and continue to honor the 101 Riley Countians who were killed in World War II. The Friends of Peace Memorial Auditorium received the support and cooperation of the City Commission during a work session in January, and the formation of the task force is the next step in the process of making improvements to Peace Memorial Auditorium. In addition to President Dave Fiser, the Friends of Peace Memorial Auditorium is led by honorary chairs Burke Bayer, Jim Sharp, and Frank Tracz.
The Peace Memorial Auditorium Task Force will meet the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Community House, located at 120 North Fourth Street, Manhattan, KS. The first meeting will be April 8th, and all task force meetings will be open to the public.
*Jerry Rosine was added as an at-large community member to the task force.
